Why isn’t healing taught during Communion service?

In nearly every Communion service I’ve attended, the congregation was taught about how the blood of Jesus was shed for the remission of sin.  We are reminded to evaluate ourselves regarding sin and unforgiveness before partaking in Communion.  We are reminded to never take Communion unworthily.   Should we discern ourselves regarding sickness like we discern ourselves regarding sin? 

Jesus’ body was broken for our healing like his blood was shed for the remission of our sins. 

Traditional teaching ignores this principle.

All scriptures referenced come from the KJV.  You will need to get your Bible on this one; any electronic version will not do.  Have you ever noted the footnotes in the center of the Bible?  The editorial team, who translated the Bible from the original Greek and Hebrew, took special care in putting together these special references to help the believer get a deeper understanding of God’s word.

In this article, it will be demonstrated that by using these reference scriptures, the believer can conclude that healing is not only part of the Atonement, but Jesus reinforced this prophesy through the demonstration of Communion.  Although the disciples didn’t understand at the time, he was predicting the events leading up to His death.  By enduring pains of torture and shedding blood, He took on the sickness and sin for mankind paving the way for reconciliation to the Father. 

 In part 2 of this book study, three of the six reasons why believers should take Christ as their healer are listed here.  This is a book review from Bodily Healing in the Atonement by Dr. T.J. McCrossan.  This is an outstanding book on this topic.  Be blessed.

1.     (Division I)  Six reasons why all Christians should take Christ as their healer for their bodies. [Three reasons are presented in this article]

a.      Because God used to heal the sick, He is an unchangeable God.

                                          i.     In the Old Testament, God was the Healer.

1.     Exodus 15:26

2.     Exodus 23:25

3.     Psalm 103:3.  Some scholars teach that the Psalmist was only speaking of spiritual diseases (Psalm 103:4)

a.      disease in Psalm 103:3 in the Septuagint is nosos.  It is used nine times in the Septuagint and 12 times in the New Testament.  It always refers to physical disease.

b.     Healeth in the Septuagint is iaomai.  It is used 28 times in the NT and it refers to physical healing.

c.      “who redeemeth” in the Septuagint is “the one who constantly redeeming” 

                                        ii.     In the NT God was man’s Healer through the Lord Jesus Christ, God in the flesh.

1.     Matthew 9:35

2.     Mark 6:12-13

a.      God does not change.  Malachi 3:6, Hebrews 13:8, James 1:17

b.     All Christians should expect God to heal their bodies today, because Christ died to atone for our sickness as well as for our sins.

                                          i.     Isaiah 53:4 => Surely he [Christ] hath borne our griefs [kholee, sicknesses], and carried our sorrows [makob, pains]

1.     kholee (sickness) is from chalah, to be weak, sick, or afflicted.  Deuteronomy 7:15

2.     makob (pain). The word pain (makob) is also used in Job 33:19 and Jeremiah 51:8.

3.     nasa (borne):  bear in the sense of “suffering punishment for something.  In Isaiah 53:12 => “And he [Christ] was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare [nasa] the sin of many.”

4.     sabal (carried):  “to bear something as a penalty or chastisement.”

a.      Lamentations 5:7.  Our fathers have sinned . . . and we have borne [sabal] their iniquities.

b.     Isaiah 53:11.  He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied . . . for he shall bear [sabal] their iniquities.

5.     Matthew 8:16-17 comments on Isaiah 53:4.  When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: “He Himself took our infirmities And bore our sicknesses.”                

a.     The phrase “that it might be fulfilled [plerothe]”.  It was used again in Matthew 12:17-21.  Prediction also in Isaiah 42:1-4   

c.      All Christians should expect God to heal their sicknesses today, because all sickness is the result of Satan’s work, when he introduced sin into this world.  Christ was manifested to destroy Satan’s work.

                                          i.     Sickness and disease was caused by the devil.

1.     Acts 10:38

2.     oppressed (katadunasteuomenous):  I dominate or exercise lordship either over them or their ancestors.

                                        ii.     Jesus lived, died on the cross, and rose again that He might destroy the works of the devil.

1.     Hebrews 2:14

One of the most profound books ever written regarding healing in the Atonement is the book:

Bodily Healing and the Atonement by Dr. T.J. McCrossan (reedited by Roy H. Hicks and Kenneth E. Hagin)

Originally published in 1930, Dr. McCrossan uses the original Greek in the New Testament and the Septuagint (Greek translation of the Old Testament) to prove that God’s original plan for believers was divine healing.  When I first read the book, I admit it was a tough read.  I had difficulty bring the pieces together.  So over a few months I picked up the book from time to time, gathering pearls of knowledge. 

It was after coming to the knowledge of Kingdom Authority (my previous blog) that the Holy Spirit opened my eyes.  I picked up this book and it was like reading it for the first time.  Revelation knowledge was revealed to me.  From this experience, I wanted to write a chapter outline of the book.  It is dedicated to those who have this treasure of a book, but for one reason or another finding it difficult to read.  If you don’t have this book, I encourage you to purchase a copy.  It will be a blessing to your life.

In the first part of this book, Dr. McCrossan clearly proves that sickness and disease is NOT from God.  Too many believers blame God for their condition, lacking understanding to the truth. 

1.      Introduction: How did sickness enter the world

      a.     Satan caused man to disobey God.  He is the originator of sin, sickness, and death.  Genesis 1:17 & 3:1-19

      b.      Jesus healed a man at the pool of Bethesda (John 5:14).  The man’s sickness had come as a result of sin.

      c.       Jesus healed a man sick with the palsy (Mark 2:9-11).  The devil was the author of this sickness.

      d.      Christ used the Greek word epitimao, to rebuke sickness.  He used this word to rebuke evil spirits.

                            i.      Luke 4:35

                           ii.      Luke 4:39

       e.       In Acts, Jesus healed all that were oppressed of the devil (Acts 4:38).  Oppressed means “those under the domination or lordship of the devil.”

                             i.      Jesus healed a woman with a spirit of infirmity. Luke 13:11,16

                             ii.      Jesus healed a man with a deaf and dumb spirit.  Mark 9:25

                            iii.      Jesus healed a man with an unclean spirit.  Mark 1:23

                            iv.      Paul healed a girl who was possessed with a spirit of divination.  Acts 16:16

f.        Not only is the devil the originator of sickness, but his is the propagator of it, for the Bible informs us that he has special evil spirits whose chief business is to make people sick.

Hello Family!

As I walk this journey toward understanding who God is and his ultimate purpose for my life I will freely admit that I don’t know everything.  It is amazing that after reading familiar scriptures over the years you all of a sudden come to the revelation knowledge of God’s word.  This experience happened to me two weeks ago which spanned several days.  I’ve been studying on a topic entitled Kingdom Authority because I wanted to get a deeper understanding of how to command sickness to leave a body.  I’ve been saved for over sixteen years and I’ve heard different things in the Kingdom.  There is a song that says there is money in the Kingdom, peace in the Kingdom, and even love in the Kingdom.  These things are good, however the revelation of what the Kingdom really is and how it pertains to me (in application to divine healing) was not in my grasp . . . until now. 

I sat in on a sermon two Sunday’s ago when Pastor Ray Johnson (Calvary Revival Church-Peninsula, Newport News) gave a powerful sermon.  In his message he taught on exousia power.   I thought, “I’ve never heard of that before, is it like dunamis?”   The next day I looked up the Greek word exousia from www.studylight.org, an on-line Bible study guide (an excellent resource).

Translated words include: authority, jurisdiction, liberty, right, strength and power. 

dunamis

Translated words include:  ability, meaning, mightily, mighty, miracle, miraculous powers, strength, wealth, and power.

I looked up every scripture in the New Testament where these words were used.  The discovery as astonishing, so much so that it was a good thing I came to this revelation sitting down. 

Dunamis means power in ability.  That is good, because you know that as a believer you have the ability to lay hands on the sick and see them healed.  You don’t need to run from one healing conference to another, sowing money you don’t have expecting to pay for a healing.

Exousia means power of authority over rank and territories.  The context of exousia was used in reference to angles, demons, and legions of men.  When Jesus communicated with demons, He didn’t ask, he commanded.  A general doesn’t make small talk with a lower rank officer.  He SPEAKS and his men move to his orders.  Jesus has power over the heavens, earth, and hell.  In the Great Commission, Jesus transferred authority and power to preach the Good News, heal the sick, and have rule over demons to the disciples.  As a believer and baptized by the Holy Spirit, we have the same authority and power that Jesus had on earth.  Exousia power gives every believer authority over demons!

The reason why believers don’t walk in Kingdom Authority is that they are bound by manipulating spirits through poisonous relationships.  Manipulation is a form of witchcraft, with its source being from satan.

REVELATION

With this revelation knowledge, my life has been transformed. I read my Bible as one who has Kingdom Authority.  I know what I’m authorized to do and who I can command.   I continue to evaluate my relationships (including family) to identify any manipulating spirits.

Take some time to review the difference between dunamis and exousia.  In my opinion, I want exousia power!

If going though an illness or a challenging situation, emotions flare up making you feel sad or depressed.  You may be feeling that Jesus doesn’t love you.  This is an attack of satan to discourage you, separating you from Jesus.  Sometimes your so-called friends are not helping matters through negative confession and lack of support.  Jesus loves you regardless of what you are going through.  When I feel sad about certain situations, I reflect on these words as a reminder of who I am in Christ.  Use these scriptures as a reminder of who you are and add to the list as the Holy Spirit teaches you.  In preparing your list, your spirit-man will be uplifted.  

Suggestion:  Read these words out loud.  This is very important.  Use the following format: 

I am [words/positive confession] according to [scripture].

I am . . .

·        a woman/man who has the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16)

·        salt of the earth. (Matt 5:13)

·        the light of the World. (Matt 5:14)

·        created in His image (Gen 1:27)

·        worth far above rubies (Proverbs 31:10)

·        His friend because He knows my name. (Exodus 33:17)

·        a chosen race, a royal priesthood (2 Peter 2:9)

·        blessed with the ability to produce with multiplicity (Genesis 28:3-4)

·        chosen and appointed to bear fruit. (John 15:16)

·        a reflection of Christ in how I love my enemies (Matthew 5:44) and forgive them (Matthew 6:14)

·        His friend (John 15:14-15) like Moses was a friend of God (Exodus 33:9-23).

·        a woman/man who hides His word in my heart (Psalm 119:11)

·        a gentle woman/man who avoids quarrelling (2 Timothy 2:23-26)

This is one of the reasons why I established this  blog.   It is my desire that a thorough study of God’s word, the teaching on this  blog will bring clarity to divine healing.  Medical treatment should never be denied.

What started as assisting my daughter with developing an AIDS awareness program in her high school evolved into becoming an AIDS activist.  The statistics are startling for African-Americans.   According to www.aids.gov, Blacks are disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS. While making up only 13 percent of the U.S. population, they account for more than 49 percent of AIDS cases. AIDS is now the leading cause of death for Black women ages 25 to 34, and the second leading cause of death for Black men ages 35 to 44.

My friend attended an AIDS seminar focusing on AIDS awareness and testing.  What was so shocking was that the speaker (who was a lesbian) demonstrated to the audience how to perform oral sex using a “special condom,” without the man even knowing what was going on.  (I thought it ironc how a lesbian is teaching this technique for men.) On the subject of AIDS and the black church, this speaker stated that the problem is that the people are unable to accept openly gay men.  If they do, then the men would be free to have sex with other men and not live a lie by having sex with men in private.  Needless to say, if I attended this class I would leave the seminar and head to the nearest bar for a drink . . . and I don’t even drink!

A new term was also learned.  To describe men living an appearance of a heterosexual lifestyle while having sex with other men we say “downlow.”  That is politically incorrect.  The correct term is MSM, meaning Men having Sex with Men.  OK now, what is a Born-Again, Spirit-Filled, Fire-Baptized woman to do!  Compromise is not the answer; acceptance of alternative lifestyles is not an option.  However, shunning, criticizing, or otherwise condemning the individual is not the answer either . . .

As a believer, I am deeply troubled that HIV/AIDS can be prevented and controlled through an adjustment of lifestyle, education, love, and support.  Today’s music and pop culture has opened Pandora’s box on exploring various sexual experiences for the purpose of satisfying the flesh.  However, these experiences although may feel good at the moment, does come with a price. 

How do you minster to someone who is engaging in risky sexual behavior and/or is HIV positive?  Can you effectively minister and deal with the lifestyle?  God is love so how do we love those in need and deal with the lifestyle, or do we address the lifestyle?

What would Jesus do?

After taking a few deep breaths, I began to ponder on this issue.  Where do you draw the line?  People are dying and if the church (especially the black church) doesn’t get their act together to openly face this issue we will be facing a pandemic problem like in Africa.  Then it hit me:  hate the sin, love the sinner.  From this philosophy I began to formulate a position from a Christian perspective to love the individual, meet their need (prayer, medicine, education, support, finances), and minister the Gospel.  The Holy Spirit will do the conviction.  Helping someone who is living an alternative lifestyle does not mean that their actions are condoned or condemned.  Everyone who is affected needs prayer. 

STATEMENT ON HUMAN SEXUALITY

The healing ministry of Ucanwalkonwater, by no means either explicitly or implied, condone homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, incest, fornication, bestiality, or pornography.  By educating the African-American community on HIV/AIDS awareness, the purpose is to present sound information, dispel myths to equip the individual to make intelligent decisions regarding their sexuality and sexual behavior.  If the individual is HIV positive or has an STD, the ministry will provide resources for treatment and control.  No one will be turned away for prayer or emotional support.

This position is from a Christian perspective, not an argument on alternative lifestyles.  This blog is open for comments, but please provide input for improvement.

I attended an AIDS conference last week.  I learned how AIDS was the leading cause of death in African American women.  I learned about statistics.  I heard the testimony of a young man who was in denial for two years, when he was informed he was HIV positive.  He was very sick and went to the hospital many times.  It wasn’t until after several trips to the hospital a nurse wanted to test for HIV . . .  and that’s when reality set in and he burst out in tears.  A homosexual man who attended the conference testified that most of the men who approached him where in the church AND were married.  AIDS is a gay man’s disease right?

What made me put a face to AIDS was when I heard a testimony from a woman named Janet Hall.  She was diagnosed with HIV over three years ago after contracting the virus from a boyfriend.  He told her he tested negative for it when he left prison.  As she shared her story, her eyes filled with tears.  It wasn’t the tears that she is living with a deadly disease.  The tears came from the betrayal . . . for not asking THE QUESTION . . . for not asking for verification. 

Janet is like many single women: we want to love and be loved.  Money, career, and fortune is nice but doesn’t compare to sharing the love with a man.  However, with more and more African American men having sex with other men and THEN having sex with heterosexual women, it is no reason why AIDS is an epidemic in our culture.  I don’t need some PhD from the CDC to tell me that AIDS is an epidemic in the African American culture.

Hepatitis C is also major issue among the African American culture.  Why is Hep-C important?  It attacks the liver.  If you are HIV positive and/or have herpes you will have to take a cocktail of drugs, which puts stress on the liver.  Imagine you are middle class or on the poverty level and need to buy these drugs.  Even with government help, you won’t get the quality care like someone who has money.  But then, what is the cost of the quality of life?

African Americans need to be proactive with our heath and take care and pride concerning our well being. 

• The only 100% guarantee from AIDS and other STDs is abstinence PERIOD.
• If you do have sex (and intend to use a condom) PLEASE get an STD and AIDS report.  A bank won’t loan money to you unless they do a credit check.  Federal and State Governments as well as most employers are asking for a background check before hiring you.  So, you shouldn’t have sex with anyone without an AIDS/STD report.

What you don’t ask (and verify) can kill you.

The church better wake up and stop preaching the prosperity gospel.  What good is it when people are the WALKING DEAD?  Jesus is the only way, the truth and the life.  Abundant life is not a BMW or a 500k home.  It is free from the cares and desires of this world.

I’m putting together a guide to help us get better clarity to the disease and set in motion a plan to prevent new cases of AIDS and control the number of people already infected.  If you have any advice, literature, or guidance all comments are welcome.  If we don’t approach this demon with the love of Christ, we are all lost.
